This project’s objective is to effectively shift the culture in existing Ghanaian media organizations towards use of open data, data-driven journalism and data-driven civic engagement. It also includes increasing citizens participation in government activities.

Code for Ghana will form a community of open-data experts, and embed them into media organizations to bring open-data applications into Ghanaian newsrooms.

This community of civic hackers will develop and use apps to analyses and interpret open data from sources such as the recently launched Ghana Open Data Initiative (GODI). Competitive fellowships will enable a few hackers or “data fellows” to work intensively within media organizations for six months.
