U-FE & ResCom Mentoring Activities

The following U-FE & ResCom Mentoring activities took place throughout 2012 – 2015)

 

  • September 2012: Introductory meeting in Bogotá, Colombia (lacigf5):
    The Seed Alliance team was presented with the DECI-2 approach to evaluation and research communications and explored workable scenarios for every region.
  • December 2012: Kick-off meeting, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (IDRC I&N Partners meeting):
    Budget review, identification of regional mentors and draft MoUs produced.
  • December 2012: FRIDA team meeting, Montevideo, Uruguay:
    • U-FE+ResCom presentation to two LACNIC Senior Managers by DECI-2 LAC mentors
    • Outlined mentoring plan for U-FE.
    • ResCom process was delayed while a Communications Coordinator was hired.
  • May 2013: ISIF Asia team meeting, Brisbane, Australia:
    • U-FE+ResCom held a two-day workshop with eight APNIC Senior Managers, DECI-2 team and DECI Asia mentors.
    • An action plan was drafted for the 2013/2014 activities,
    • A calendar for selection of supported projects was approved
    • The selection criteria based on “readiness assessment” was approved.
  • November 2013: FIRE team meeting. Ebene, Mauritius:
    • U-FE+ResCom held a two-day workshop with nine staff members including AFRINIC Senior Management and DECI-2 Africa mentors.
    • Guidelines for mentoring provision were drafted.
    • Agreements on the tools and methodologies to provide the mentoring were made.
    • Agreements on building capacity at AFRINIC for both U-FE and ResCom were made.
    • Assessment of Readiness was shared.
    • Primary Intended Uses were shared with their corresponding key evaluation questions and users (8 AFRINIC staff members) completed.
    • A group exercise was conducted to find the connections between the Evaluation User and Primary Intended Uses for communication strategies.
  • April 2014: Three ISIF Asia-supported projects were selected to receive DECI-2 mentoring.
    Once the Selection Committee completed the selection process:

    • Six out of 12 Grantees were invited to submit expressions of interest to participate in the mentoring process.
    • Three Grantees were assessed by the DECI-2 mentors and were selected for the process. A schedule of online webinars and face-to-face workshops was approved.
  • June 2014: FIRE workshop on Project Monitoring and Evaluation for 2014 Grantees. Djibouti, Djibouti (Africa Internet Summit (AIS) / AFRINIC 20):
    • Facilitated by Kenneth Sanvi (SANVI & Co), the workshop focused on the reporting strategy and template

 

  • August 2014: ISIF Asia mentoring to Nazdeek (India):
    • Sonal Zaveri provided mentoring to Francesca Feruglio and Barnabas Kindo for the End Maternal Mortality Project and provided training on U-FE, and to refine key evaluation questions.
    • The ResCom concepts and support for communications strategy was provided by Vira Ramelan online.

 

  • March 2015: ISIF Asia mentoring to Operation ASHA (Cambodia), Phnom Penh:
    • Sonal Zaveri and Vira Ramelan provided mentoring to Jacqueline Chen and Vin “Charlie” Samnang for the eDetection app project to provide training on U-FE and ResCom concepts, refine key evaluation questions and draft plans for communications strategy.

 

  • September 2014: ISIF Asia face-to-face workshop in Brisbane for Nazdeek, CIIAG and Operation ASHA:
    • Sonal Zaveri and Vira Ramelan provided mentoring to representatives from Nazdeek and Pahjra, Operation ASHA and CIIAG on U-FE and ResCom concepts, to refine key evaluation questions and draft plans for communications strategy.

 

  • November 2014: ISIF Asia mentoring to CIIAG (Cook Islands). Rarotonga:
    • Sonal Zaveri and Vira Ramelan provided mentoring to Ano Tsonga and Maureen Hillyard for the Cook Islands Maori Database project to provide training on U-FE and ResCom concepts, to refine key evaluation questions and draft plans for communications strategy.

 

  • May 2015: Presentations by the Deci-2 mentors (Singapore)
    • DECI-2 mentors Sonal Zaveri and Vira Ramelan presented to the Seed Alliance team, including funding recipients from FIRE and FRIDA, in Singapore on U-FE and ResCom mentoring received and the DECI-2 approach at the ICTD 2015 conference.
    • A video was produced for dissemination for the DECI-2 approach.

 

  • July 2015: Final reports by Nazdeek, CIIAG and Operation ASHA submitted in July 2015 include reports about the DECI-2 mentoring process.
